This week has been incredible. I cant believe how much I'm learning. Did you know the entire Book of Mormon is actually all about missionary work? yeah me neither, but turns out it is!! And its way cool!!!!! Seriously, go read Lehi's dream and think about missionaries and you will see what I mean. Also as of last week, there was 1300 missionaries here at the MTC and over 700 were sisters. GIRL POWER. But this week 500 new missionaries came so i'm not actually sure what the stats look like now cuz there were a ton of elders in that batch.......
Its so fun seeing all the people i know! But meeting new people has been such a blast too. There's an elder here from Chuuk that we met. He doesn't speak english really but Sister Laulusa knew how to say hello in Chuukese. (Its Rananeem. That's spelled how it sounds because I have no idea how to spell it) So every time we see him we say hi in his language and it makes him happy but I don't think he actually understands that we are going to Micronesia on our mission, no matter how many times we've tried explaining it to him...I'm pretty sure he is serving in the Marshall islands learning Marshallese.
So this past Sunday was a freaking awesome day full of blessings from the Man upstairs. The branch president is one inspired guy. Everything he talks about is perfect for my needs. I had a meeting with him and he gave me a blessing and there was literally direct answers to questions I'd been pondering. Also we talked about how awesome sister Laulusa and I's companionship is and he said "Wouldn't that be cool to serve together again on the islands? If you pray for it, it will probably happen." So you can bet we have been praying for that every night:)
Then when we were eating dinner everyone was talking about how President Uchtdorf was here. So sister Laulusa and I finished eating and went out in the hallway to find a massive crowd of missionaries. We knew we wouldn't be able to get through and we weren't exactly even sure where he was because the crowd was so big. We both felt like we should take a walk through a random hallway and ended up on the other side of the crowd, right behind President Uchtdorf, where no one else was. We hear him bid all the missionaries good luck and farewell and then he turns around and walks right up to us and looks in each of our eyes and shakes our hands! I wanted to say something about how great he was and how much I love him, but I was too starstruck and no words came. I just smiled the biggest cheesiest smile of my life. It was AWESOME. Plus we had only been in that building eating at that time because we were going to choir practice so pretty much we were blessed for trying to sing.
We ended up singing for the Tuesday devotional and my comp and I made it on camera and on the big screens. I never would have thought that would ever happen because I don't really sing, but it was a super nifty experience that I will always remember and I think I might even be improving. (thanks to sister Laulusa trying to teach me the alto part).
Another thing I'm improving in thanks to God and Sister Laulusa is volleyball. We played it with our district in the sand courts this week and it was such a good time. I actually kinda loved it. Also we played a district game of kickball and that was awesome. I was super sore the next day. I've actually just been super sore everyday because Sister Laulusa makes/encourages me to do actual workouts with her every night. Its probably good for me because I'm eating so much: trying to enjoy it all before the only thing I eat is fish, rice, ramen, and spam...
I know this is exactly where I'm supposed to be. In such a short amount of time I have felt my faith, trust, and confidence improve immensely. I never thought I would be a scriptorian, but so many times during our lessons the spirit will tell me exactly what scripture to share and its amazing. We learn so much as we teach. We work very well together and the spirit is so strong during all of our practice lessons. She will be speaking and all I can think is how shes doing great and I have nothing to say, then she will look at me and I will look at the investigator and suddenly all the words are right there, far more simple and articulate then I could ever make up on my own. She says she experiences the exact same thing during the lessons and often times we can't even remember what it was we said. I'm really hoping that this will still happen in Micronesia when I don't even know how to actually speak the language...
Our favorite this week was teaching one amazing investigator (actually a recent convert) about the plan of salvation and then the next day about the doctrine of Christ and inviting her to baptism. Its cool because she teaches us so much. When we talked about the atonement she compared it to hunger games which I thought was so perfect! Just like Katniss volunteered to go in place of her sister prim, so did our brother Jesus Christ volunteer to go instead of us, because he knew that we wouldn't make it but that he could. That's how much he loves us:) he didn't do it for glory, and he didn't want to experience all that pain, but he wanted to save us more than anything.
Godspeed, God bless, God be with you till we meet again.
Sister Milne
